Designing Learning That Begins with the Learner

I believe effective learning begins with understanding the learner.

​

Throughout my career as an educator, curriculum developer, and learning experience designer, I've been guided by a simple question:

​

What do learners need in order to succeed?

​

That question has shaped my work across early childhood education, K–5 curriculum development, structured literacy, multilingual learner supports, teacher professional learning, and digital learning experiences. Whether I'm designing curriculum for young learners, creating resources for educators, or developing interactive learning experiences, I begin by understanding the learner's goals, challenges, and context.

My experience in special education, multilingual learning, and literacy instruction has reinforced the importance of designing learning that is accessible, meaningful, and engaging. I believe effective instruction balances research-based practices with empathy, creating experiences that help learners build confidence while achieving meaningful outcomes.

This philosophy inspired the development of my Learner-Centered Design Framework, the process that guides every project in this portfolio. From learner analysis and standards alignment through assessment, reflection, and continuous improvement, the framework helps ensure that every design decision supports authentic learning.

I enjoy transforming complex ideas into clear, engaging learning experiences that combine thoughtful curriculum design, assessment, accessibility, and educational technology. More recently, I've incorporated AI-supported workflows to enhance efficiency while maintaining instructional quality and sound educational practice.
